La Direction générale de la protection civile et le Secrétariat permanent de gestion des risques et désastres ont mis les départements de la Grand'Anse, des Nippes, du Sud, du Sud-Est et du Nord-Ouest en alerte orange, après que l'Unité Hydrométéorologique (UHM) a confirmé le passage de la dépression tropicale numéro 22 sur la mer des Caraïbes.
Ce système, qui pourrait encore se transformer en tempête tropicale, le samedi 18 novembre, était localisé vendredi après-midi à une distance de 85 kilomètres de Montego Bay, en Jamaïque. Il est dirigé vers la pointe est-sud-est de Cuba. Selon les prévisions météorologiques, la dépression tropicale apporterait de fortes pluies, des vents forts et une mer agitée. Ces effets continueront à affecter le sud, le nord-ouest, l'ouest, le golfe de la Gonâve et le reste du pays à partir de ce soir, lorsque le centre du système passera sur la Jamaïque et la pointe sud-est de Cuba.
Plusieurs départements, comme Grand'Anse, Sud, Sud-Est et Nippes reçoivent déjà des pluies, notamment la Grand'Anse où de fortes pluies s'abattent déjà. Il y a des rivières qui descendent, comme la rivière Roseau. Une équipe de la protection civile a détecté un glissement de terrain dans la région de la rivière Glace. Ce glissement de terrain a également bloqué la route nationale n°7, qui relie la ville des Cayes et Jérémie.
En raison de la menace de fortes pluies, de vents forts et d'une mer agitée, l'Unité hydrométéorologique du pays a élevé la vigilance au niveau orange. La Direction générale de la protection civile et le Secrétariat permanent de destion des risques et desastres ont émis simultanément une alerte orange en raison du risque élevé d'inondations, de glissements de terrain et de mer agitée dans les départements de Grand'Anse, Nippes, Sud, Sud-Est et Nord-Ouest. Tous les autres départements restent en alerte jaune.
Pour sa part, le Service maritime et de navigation d'Haïti ( Semanah) interdit toute activité de cabotage sur la côte sud du pays et dans le golfe de La Gonâve. Il a demandé aux exploitants de petits bateaux de rester dans leur port d'attache.
La Direction générale de la protection civile ainsi que le Secrétariat permanent de gestion des risques et désastres demandent, dans ce communiqué, à la population, notamment à celles vivant dans les zones à risque, de respecter les conseils de sécurité.
